What We Do

Reclamation District 1500, operated by the Basin Irrigation and Drainage Authority through a joint-powers authority, ensures landowners can continue agricultural operations in the Sutter Basin through maintenance of drainage and flood protection infrastructure.

Water Drainage

We maintain and manage irrigation drainage canals along privately owned land - predominately farmland - across the Sutter Basin.

Keeping the District Dry

Karnak Pumping Facility is the main work horse of the district that helps discharge storm and irrigation water back into the Sacramento River and Sutter Bypass to help maintain agricultural operations as well as provide flood protection to home owners.

Flood Protection

We maintain and monitor 55 miles of levees to protect life and property from flood risks throughout the Sutter Basin.

Ensuring Efficiency

Reclamation District 1500 formed a Joint Powers Authority with the Sutter Mutual Water Company in 2019 to bring labor forces from both organizations under one umbrella. The new entity is known as the Basin Irrigation and Drainage Authority.
